Stops are structure
Where the idea is wrong — not where fear lives.
The only honest place
A stop belongs where your read is proven wrong: below the swing low that created a long setup, above the high that created a short. Anywhere else is a pain tolerance, not a plan.
Tight vs wide
A stop inside the noise gets hit by traffic even when the idea was right. A stop a mile away makes every loss enormous. Structure decides the stop; position size adapts to the stop.
Quick check
You go long on a hammer at support. The structural stop goes…
- Just below the hammer wick / support low
- A fixed 2% away, ignoring the chart
- Above the hammer high
- Wherever feels brave
If that low breaks, the rejection story is false. That is the definition of "idea proven wrong."
A stop that is too tight (inside the noise) mainly causes…
- Getting knocked out by random wiggle
- Bigger wins
- Better sleep
- Free entries
Noise will visit your stop before the idea gets its chance. Room to breathe, sized down to afford it.
